FAQ

Is the purchase a one-time purchase or a recurring subscription?

For the e-vignette purchased here, the fee is charged only once. It does not renew, and there are no recurring charges. A new purchase is required for each new period.

Do I need to log in to make a purchase?

No, the purchase is carried out through an accelerated process in order for the e-vignette to become valid as soon as possible.

Who can purchase an e-vignette?

The e-vignette is linked to the vehicle’s registration number, not to its owner. Anyone may purchase an e-vignette, regardless of whether they are the owner or operator of the vehicle. Therefore, an e-vignette may also be purchased by a passenger or the vehicle’s lessee.

When is it necessary to purchase an e-vignette?

The e-vignette must be purchased before entering the motorway.

Types of e-vignettes

Different types of e-vignettes must be purchased for different vehicles. Motorcycles, passenger cars, light commercial vehicles (N1), minibuses, trucks, trailers, motorhomes, caravans and other vehicle types require different e-vignettes. When making a purchase, always select the vehicle’s actual category, as selecting an incorrect category may result in a fine.

When does the e-vignette become valid?

Immediately or even later, according to the selected date. Please make sure to choose the correct time!

Can an e-vignette be purchased retrospectively?

Yes, it can technically be purchased retroactively; however, in most countries this no longer remedies the failure to pay the toll: if the e-vignette is not valid in time or the order is placed with incorrect details, a fine may be imposed. The assessment of any fine falls within the competence of the relevant toll operator in all cases; an application for leniency may be submitted, but a favourable outcome cannot be guaranteed.

Steps of the purchase

Please provide the required information. The system will then register the vehicle. After payment, the confirmation will be sent automatically to the e-mail address provided and by SMS to the telephone number provided. Finally, please check all details before driving onto the motorway.

In the event that incorrect information is provided

An e-vignette purchased with incorrect details may result in a fine. Please verify the details both before purchase and after receiving the confirmation. In the event of a typo, contact our customer service immediately: for Comfortia — Hungarian e-vignette, the incorrect detail can be corrected free of charge under Optimum —.

Registration Service

The international registration service available for purchase on the website includes, in addition to toll registration, the Comfortia (4.1) and Auxil (4.2) services detailed in the General Terms and Conditions. Under Comfortia, an order that has not yet entered into force may be cancelled at least 24 hours before the start of its validity, with a full refund (except for annual e-vignettes); changes to the licence plate number, country identifier, vehicle category, destination country or start date of validity may be requested once free of charge — a maximum of two corrections may be applied per order, and any additional costs incurred shall be borne by the operator. Under Auxil, we provide legal assistance within 180 days of the order if a fine is imposed for reasons related to the order; we act as an authorised representative before the competent authority and, where justified, may also reimburse the amount of the fine, up to a maximum of EUR 300. In the case of Hungarian e-vignettes, the Optimum package (4.1.1) shall apply instead of the above. The service also includes SMS notification of successful registration and 24/7 customer support (2.1). For purchases of Hungarian e-vignettes, the operator acts as an official reseller of Nemzeti Mobilfizetési Zrt.; for other countries, it acts as an independent registration (intermediary) service provider, and not in a governmental capacity.

Optimum

Optimum is a component of the Hungarian e-vignette registration service. In the event of a mistyped licence plate number, you may request a correction free of charge within 60 days of purchase; in the event of an incorrectly specified destination country, you may request a free amendment – on one occasion. At least 24 hours before the start of validity, the order may be cancelled and the full amount refunded, except for annual e-vignettes. We will send an SMS notification regarding the order, containing a link to the confirmation.

Comfortia

Comfortia is a component of the e-vignette registration service, enabling us to amend the licence plate number, country identifier, vehicle category, destination country, or the start date of validity once free of charge—whether due to a typographical error made during the order process or because an e-vignette for another country is required. A maximum of two such corrections may be applied per order. The system automatically, and where necessary manually, checks for obvious typographical errors. The order may be cancelled and the full amount refunded at least 24 hours before the start of validity, except in the case of annual e-vignettes. The service does not apply to Hungarian e-vignettes. Further details are available in Section 4.1 of the General Terms and Conditions and on the homepage.

Auxil

Auxil is a component of the e-vignette registration service. If you receive a fine for reasons related to your order, we will provide legal assistance within 180 days of the order date: acting as your authorised representative before the competent authority, submitting a request for legal remedy, and applying for a deferral of payment or a reduction on equitable grounds. Where justified, we may also reimburse the amount of the fine, up to a maximum of EUR 300. The service does not apply to the Hungarian e-vignette. Further details are available in Section 4.2 of the General Terms and Conditions and on the homepage.

Do I need to print the confirmation?

The online motorway E-vignette is available in digital (electronic) format, so there is no need to print it. Verification is conducted by cameras that identify the vehicle registration plate.

To use Swiss motorways, you must purchase an electronic e-vignette (e-vignette) before entering the toll-liable section.

Motorways and expressways may be used subject to payment of a toll, while main roads and secondary roads can be used free of charge. There is no grace section: the e-vignette must already be valid when crossing the border.
The toll obligation applies to vehicles with a maximum permissible laden mass below 3.5 tonnes, to both motor vehicles and trailers: for a trailer (trailer, caravan) a separate, dedicated e-vignette must be purchased, even if the towing vehicle already has an e-vignette.

* Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes do not purchase an e-vignette, but pay under the heavy vehicle charge scheme.

E-vignette types

The e-vignette is available for a single period only:

  • Annual e-vignette – valid from 1 December of the year preceding the vignette year until 31 January of the following year, a total of 14 months. Shorter-term e-vignettes do not exist in Switzerland.

* The e-vignette is linked to the registration number and cannot be transferred to another vehicle.

The toll calculation is displayed by the system once the vehicle and journey details have been entered.

ℹ️ Online purchase and required data

Payment of the road use entitlement fee is made online. Registering the vehicle takes only a few minutes. The following data are required:

  • Registration number
  • Country of registration (nationality mark)
  • E-mail address
  • Mobile phone number

When placing the order, you must enter the vehicle's registration number and the country where the vehicle is registered, then select the start and duration of validity.
The system requires an e-mail address and a mobile phone number for contact purposes. The mobile phone number is required because the link to the certificate is also sent by SMS, thereby ensuring that the user receives the certificate even if the delivery of the e-mail is obstructed for any reason.

Upon successful payment, the system sends a receipt and a QR™ SMS code containing the vehicle's identification data and the validity period of the purchased entitlement.

⛔ Fines

The legislation sets out in detail the fines to be expected if someone enters a toll road without valid payment:

  • In the case of road use without a valid e-vignette, the fine is CHF 200, in addition to which the e-vignette must also be purchased.
  • The absence of a separate e-vignette for the trailer may also be sanctioned on its own, as the trailer is a vehicle subject to its own e-vignette obligation.
  • Checks are carried out by the customs and border security authority as well as the police; the e-vignette is verified by querying the registration number.

Here, through the registration portal, the required toll payment certificate can be obtained online in just a few minutes, and it is recorded in the official register of the Bundesamt für Zoll und Grenzsicherheit (BAZG).

Components of the registration service

With us, the e-vignette is available together with the Comfortia and Auxil services; their fee is part of the registration fee.

Under Comfortia – if you mistyped the data during ordering – we will change the registration number, the nationality mark, the vehicle category, the destination country or the start date of validity once free of charge; the system checks for obvious typos automatically and, if necessary, manually as well. At least 24 hours before the start of validity, the order may be cancelled and the full amount refunded, with the exception of the annual e-vignette.

Under Auxil, if you receive a fine for a reason related to your order, we provide legal assistance within 180 days of the order: we act as your authorised representative before the competent authority, submit an appeal, and initiate a payment deferral or a reduction on equitable grounds. In justified cases, we may also reimburse the amount of the fine, up to a maximum of EUR 300.

Further details can be found in sections 4.1 and 4.2 of the General Terms and Conditions.
