To use Austrian motorways, the purchase of an electronic e-vignette is required before entering tolled sections.

Motorways and expressways can only be used upon payment of a toll, while secondary roads and main roads can be used free of charge.
The toll payment requirement applies to vehicles with a total weight of less than 3.5 tons.

* If you are travelling with a vehicle over 3.5 tons (truck, bus, heavy vehicle), please contact the Asfinag heavy vehicle payment division for the necessary toll payment.

Types and Prices of e-vignettes

The e-vignette is available for four durations:

  • 1-day e-vignette
  • 10-day e-vignette
  • 2-month e-vignette
  • Annual e-vignette

* If a vehicle under 3.5 tons is towing a trailer, a separate toll payment is required for the trailer.

The toll calculation is displayed by the system after entering the information about the vehicle and the trip.

ℹ️ Online Purchase and Required Information

The payment for road use entitlement is made online. Vehicle registration only takes a few minutes. The required details are as follows:

  • License plate number
  • Country code
  • Email address
  • Mobile phone number

During ordering (vehicle registration), you must provide the vehicle's license plate number and the country where the vehicle is registered, then select the start date and duration of your e-vignette’s validity.
The system asks for an email address and a mobile phone number for contact. Providing a mobile phone number is necessary because the confirmation link will also be sent via SMS, ensuring that the user receives the confirmation even if email delivery fails for any reason.

After successful payment, the system sends a receipt and a QR™ SMS code containing the vehicle identification details and the validity period of the purchased e-vignette.

⚠️ Warning Regarding Suspicious Websites

Certain websites offering toll payment collect credit card data but do not provide a valid e-vignette, and card details may fall into unauthorized hands.
Travelers unaware of this may face multiple disadvantages: they do not have a valid e-vignette—which can result in a fine—and their card data may also be misused.
It is recommended to avoid sites with incorrect or suspicious language.

⛔ Fines

The legislation (Bundesstraßen-Mautgesetz 2002, § 20, § 21) specifies in detail the fines that may be expected if someone enters a tolled motorway or expressway without valid payment:

  • Camera detection: if the violation is recorded by an automated camera system, the fine ranges from €120 to €3000

Here on the customer portal, you can obtain the required toll payment confirmation online in just a few minutes, which is then registered at the center of the Autobahnen- und Schnellstraßen-Finanzierungs-Aktiengesellschaft (ASFINAG).
