To use Slovak motorways, you must purchase an electronic e-vignette (e-vignette) before entering the toll road section.

Motorways and expressways may be used against payment of a toll, while main roads and secondary roads can be used free of charge.
The toll obligation applies to two-track vehicles and vehicle combinations with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 tonnes, as well as to category M1 two-track vehicles regardless of their maximum permissible weight – therefore a category M1 motorhome over 3.5 tonnes also requires an e-vignette.

* Trucks over 3.5 tonnes do not purchase an e-vignette; instead, they pay an electronic toll proportionate to the distance travelled.

E-vignette types

The e-vignette is available for four periods of validity:

• 1-day e-vignette – valid on a single calendar day, between 0:00 and 24:00
• 10-day e-vignette
• 30-day e-vignette
• 365-day e-vignette – valid for exactly 365 days from the selected start date, not tied to a calendar year

* If the combined maximum permissible weight of the towing vehicle of category M1 or N1 and the trailer of category O1 or O2 (trailer, caravan) exceeds 3.5 tonnes, a separate e-vignette must be purchased for the trailer, under the trailer's own registration number. If the total weight of the combination remains below 3.5 tonnes, a single e-vignette for the towing vehicle is sufficient.
* When travelling at night, pay attention to the 1-day e-vignette: if the vehicle enters the toll road section before midnight and exits after midnight, an e-vignette is required for both days.

The toll calculation is displayed by the system after the vehicle and journey details have been entered.

ℹ️ Online purchase and required data

The payment of the road use fee takes place online. Registering the vehicle takes only a few minutes. The following data are required:

• Vehicle registration number
• Country of registration
• E-mail address
• Mobile phone number

When placing the order, you must provide the vehicle's registration number and the country where the vehicle is registered, then select the start and duration of validity. The start of validity may be set up to 60 days in advance, and the e-vignette is only valid from the specified start date.
The system requires an e-mail address and a mobile phone number for contact purposes. The mobile phone number is required because the link to the confirmation is also sent by SMS, thereby ensuring that the user receives the confirmation even if the delivery of the e-mail is obstructed for any reason.

Upon successful payment, the system sends a receipt and a QR™ SMS code containing the vehicle's identification data and the period of validity of the purchased road use right.

⛔ Fines

The legislation (Zákon č. 488/2013 Z. z.) sets out in detail the fines that may be expected if someone drives onto a toll road without valid payment:

• In the case of automatic camera-based checks, based on the objective liability of the vehicle's operator, the fine is €150; if two thirds of this amount, i.e. €100, is paid within 15 days, the fine is deemed to have been paid in full.
• In the case of a police check, the on-the-spot fine may range between €50 and €200, and in administrative proceedings between €100 and €500.
• Checks are carried out on the toll road sections using licence plate recognition cameras and roadside inspections.

Here, via the registration portal, the required proof of toll payment can be obtained online within a few minutes, and it is recorded in the official register of the NDS – Národná diaľničná spoločnosť, a.s.

Components of the registration service

The e-vignette is available from us together with the Comfortia and Auxil services; their fees are part of the registration fee.

Under Comfortia – if you mistyped the details during ordering – we will change the licence plate number, the country code, the vehicle category, the destination country or the start date of validity free of charge on one occasion; the system checks for obvious typing errors automatically and, if necessary, manually as well. At least 24 hours before the start of validity, the order may be cancelled and the full amount refunded, with the exception of the annual e-vignette.

Under Auxil – if you were to receive a fine for a reason related to your order – we provide legal assistance within 180 days of the order: we act as your authorised representative before the competent authority, submit an appeal, and initiate a payment deferral or a reduction on grounds of equity. In justified cases, we may also reimburse the amount of the fine, up to a maximum of EUR 300.
