To use the Czech motorways, it is necessary to purchase an electronic e-vignette (e-vignette) before entering the toll-liable section.
Motorways and expressways may be used against payment of a toll, while main roads and secondary roads are free of charge.
The toll obligation applies to vehicles with a maximum permissible weight below 3.5 tonnes and with at least four wheels: passenger cars, minibuses, vans and motorhomes up to 3.5 tonnes.
* Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes do not purchase a vignette, but pay within the distance-based Czech toll system.
Vignette types
The e-vignette is available in four validity periods:
- 1-day e-vignette
- 10-day e-vignette
- 30-day e-vignette
- Annual e-vignette – valid for exactly 365 days from the selected start date, not tied to the calendar year
* No separate vignette is required for a trailer (trailer or caravan): the vignette is only required for the towing vehicle under 3.5 tonnes, and the weights are not added together.
* Fully electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles are exempt from the vignette fee; in the case of a foreign-registered vehicle, the exemption must be notified in advance in the official system, as it is not automatic.
The toll calculation is displayed by the system after the vehicle and journey details have been entered.
ℹ️ Online purchase and required data
The payment of the road use fee is made online. The registration of the vehicle takes only a few minutes. The following data are required:
- Registration number
- Country of registration
- E-mail address
- Mobile phone number
When placing the order, the vehicle's registration number and the country in which the vehicle is registered must be provided, and then the start and duration of validity must be selected. The start of validity can be set up to 30 days in advance.
The system requires an e-mail address and a mobile phone number for contact purposes. The mobile phone number is required because the link to the confirmation is also sent by SMS, ensuring that the user receives the confirmation even if the delivery of the e-mail is hindered for any reason.
Upon successful payment, the system sends a receipt and a QR™ SMS code containing the vehicle identification data and the validity period of the purchased authorisation.
⛔ Fines
The legislation (Zákon č. 13/1997 Sb.) sets out in detail the fines that can be expected if someone enters a toll road without valid payment:
- On-the-spot fine: the police and the customs authority may impose a fine of up to CZK 5,000.
- In administrative proceedings, the fine may rise to CZK 20,000.
- Enforcement is carried out by the police and the customs authority, including with vehicles equipped with licence plate recognition cameras.
Here, through the registration portal, the required toll payment confirmation can be obtained online in just a few minutes, and it is recorded in the official register of the Czech toll system.
Components of the registration service
With us, the e-vignette is available together with the Comfortia and Auxil services; their fee is part of the registration fee.
Within the framework of Comfortia – if you mistyped the data during the order – we will change the registration number, the country of registration, the vehicle category, the destination country or the start date of validity once free of charge; the system checks obvious typing errors automatically and, if necessary, manually as well. At least 24 hours before the start of validity, the order can be cancelled and the full amount refunded, with the exception of the annual vignette.
Under Auxil, if you receive a fine for a reason related to your order, we provide legal assistance within 180 days of the order: we act as your authorised representative before the competent authority, submit an appeal, and initiate a payment deferral or a reduction on equitable grounds. In justified cases, we may also reimburse the amount of the fine, up to a maximum of EUR 300.
